Bike
39 IWL Berlin (scooter)
By now it is early februari 2006, the house in Poortgaal is sold and we
wanted to celebrate that.
For
us that s buying a bike. Due to the fact we did not make any profit out of
the house, it had to be a cheap one.
So I again looked at the internet and found a very nice Tatran included with
all papers. To bad at the moment I called the scooter was sold one minute
before. We found a nice, not running, NSU Prima. however the seller did not
react at all on my e-mails. But there she was a
IWL
Berlin, a real former Eastern German motor scooter.
The old story again e-mail discussions concerning trading with an other bike
etc. etc.
We finally made a deal with trading the Jawa junior for the scooter. At the
end the seller called me and told that he rather sold the scooter instead of
trading. He offered me a special price including re-painting the scooter.
Actually I was not to happy in trading the Jawa Junior so we were both
happy.
And lucky me he took the scooter to mine place, which is normally the other
way around.
The scooter will be fully overhauled some day.
 | Now again the place is
getting to small and there are two things we can do:
- Extend the garage
- Stop selling
We will see how it turns out.

By now it is December 2006 and I finally
got the paint job back. The rebuilding could be started. I first cleaned the
frame work and wheels then I rebuilt the front end first due to the front
shield and cleaned the engine and carburetor and tried to start her. It took
me some time but finally I got her running. So she was back to live which
gave me a good feeling. The
paint job
done may be classified as poor, however she is better looking then before
and as long I don't drive too fast I hope the paint remains on the body. So
I found again that cheap work is cheap result. All together it is not too
bad and when all built together she looks even nice and it is an Eastern
Europe working bike and not a show bike.
March 2007 I finished
the Berlin and was not real happy with her and put her for sale at almost
the same time. The main problem was the paint job done by a so called
professional. Technically the Berlin was OK and lucky for me I got my money
back I spend on her. Sold May 2007
